In the remote northern part of the Cadia Riverlands lies the Scarlet Shadow, home to two ancient ninja sects: the Scarlet Sect and the Shadow Sect. These two schools of ninjutsu had been bitter rivals for millennia until they agreed to exchange their children for training, hoping to form special bonds among the younger generations.Â
Hanabi, the oldest daughter of the Scarlet Supreme Grandmaster, had been raised to succeed her father's position and exhibited extraordinary talent that far exceeded any of her peers. However, her skills were put to the test when a young ninja from the Shadow Sect arrived at the village. Hayabusa, the younger son of the Shadow Supreme Grandmaster, had exceptional skills and an understanding of the Scarlet ninja equipment, making him a formidable rival to Hanabi.
Their rivalry grew over time, with Hanabi trying to provoke Hayabusa into dueling with her every full moon night. Although she occasionally won, Hayabusa had the upper hand most of the time, leaving Hanabi frustrated and vexed. However, their silent fights eventually became an unspoken routine of communication, and they exchanged words that seemed like a conversation but could also be said to themselves.Â
As they reached adolescence, their duels continued, and Hanabi became aware of her feelings for Hayabusa. But her pride as a girl and her ninja training taught her never to reveal her emotions. Their coming-of-age ceremony coincided with the full moon's eve, and Hanabi prepared a bento of red bean rice to express her feelings for Hayabusa. But when she found him with another girl, her heart was broken, and she left without saying a word.Â
Years later, Hanabi took on the name Scarlet and learned the truth behind Hayabusa's leaving: he was destined to carry the burden of hunting down the demonic Hanzo. On another full moon night, Hanabi was alone on a high rooftop, gazing into the distance, waiting for Hayabusa to return so they could finish their duel.
