Lyceum University (LPU) in Manila, Philippines has become the first private higher education institution in Asia to offer a college degree in e-sports. The degree program, which is offered through the university's computer science department, is divided into two major majors: Esports Management and Game Design and Development.
The Esports Management major will prepare students for careers in the business side of e-sports, such as event management, marketing, and broadcasting. The Game Design and Development major will prepare students for careers in the creation of e-sports games, such as level design, character design, and programming.
Lyceum University President Dr. Jose B. Laurel, Jr. said that the establishment of the e-sports degree program is a response to the growing popularity of e-sports in the Philippines and around the world. "E-sports is a rapidly growing industry, and we want to give our students the skills they need to succeed in this field," he said.
The e-sports degree program at Lyceum University is the first of its kind in Asia, and it is expected to attract students from all over the region. The program is a testament to the growing popularity of e-sports and the recognition of its potential as a viable career path.
